The Pantone Color of the Year 2017: Three Ways to Decorate with Greenery

I waited. I knew it was coming. I was nervous. I mean, nothing could outdo last year. Rose Quartz was my everything. Have you seen how much I love pink? And last week it was announced. Greenery. Greenery? Geez, it's awfully bright! Wow, now that I think about it, my clients never ask for green. Chartreuse, yes, and maybe a deep hunter, but Greenery? I took to my Instagram party. The reviews were mixed. Some loved green, just not that green. Others were excited for the bright possibilities. A fashion consultant buddy of mine said she was excited for her springs, but her summers weren't going to be happy. Maybe that was it? I am a summer, after all. Will this color be a huge hit? Or will it flop bigger than Marsala ('cause who remembers Marsala? Amirite?) And while I'm still on the fence on whether Greenery, the Pantone Color of the Year for 2017, will be a thing in the home decor world, I did come up with three beautiful options for bringing this bright hue into your home, no matter what your style!
Pantone Color of the Year 2017 Greenery

And while I'm still on the fence on whether Greenery, the Pantone Color of the Year for 2017, will be a thing in the home decor world, I did come up with three beautiful options for bringing this bright hue into your home, no matter what your style!

DECORATING WITH THE PANTONE COLOR OF THE YEAR IDEA #1: USE GREENERY!

This one is really where I see this trend going in home decor. It's all about bringing the outdoors in, which I love! I think any room with some plant life is automatically more styled and put together. So whether or not you have the time or the skills to bring a bit of Greenery into your space (pun intended #badjoke), and no matter what your style, plant life is the way to go! Here are some fresh ideas:

  • Photographs or plant inspired artwork
  • Terrariums with succulents #lowmaintenance
  • A subscription to an online floral retailer like Bouqs
  • Nearly Naturals for those of us with poor lighting or without green thumbs

DECORATING WITH THE PANTONE COLOR OF THE YEAR IDEA #2: GET PREPPY!

But perhaps you're more of The Glamourist (which I know sooo many of you are!) and you want a bit more drama with your Greenery? Look to the Preppy style, lover of all things fun and bright. (You can visit my Preppy style guide for more deets here.)

Preppy is all about fun color combos, so you'll want to decide what kind of look your going for.

You could layer Greenery with dramatic blacks, whites, and metallics, and really let it steal the show...

Or you could go for a cool, fresh vibe with blues and aquas...

And then you could also go for a subtle contrast with light pinks or peaches...

Or go all-in with a side of hot pink and magenta!

DECORATING WITH THE PANTONE COLOR OF THE YEAR IDEA #3: WELCOME TO THE JUNGALOW!

Now this is for the Boho! Created by the uber-inspirational Justina Blakeney, Jungalows celebrate color, pattern, and PLANTS! You heard it, we're talking Greenery! The Pantone Color of the Year was meant for Jungalows!

Not sure if this is the look for you? Head on over to the Bohemian style guide and find out!

Along with plenty of plants, look for furnishings with crazy textures and large patterns- this is really a more is more look with rich colors and a variety of unique materials. Time to go wild!

My number one piece of advice for using the Pantone Color of the Year, or any color, is don't feel pressured into decorating with it or wearing it because it's the new cool thing. Honestly, other than some plants, I won't be embracing it this year, even though that Preppy vibe is so my jam. And if you love it, go all out! Coco Chanel once said, "Fashion fades, but style endures." And my momma always told me to listen to Coco!

I'd love to hear your thoughts? Too bright? Just right? How will you be bringing a bit of Greenery into your life this year? Comment below!
