It’s that time of year; are you ready? While I know some that break out their holiday decorations on July 5th, I’m pretty sure most of us are just now starting to think about the fall season. So I’ve rounded up my favorite Halloween décor ideas for 2017, perfect for anyone that wants their home to look trick-or-treat ready without the tacky!
Halloween Décor Ideas 2017: Add Décor That Doesn’t Scream Halloween
Think beyond orange and black witches, Jack o’ Lanterns, and ghosts.
Halloween can go a bit sophisticated and still stay whimsical. Go a bit glam!
My go-to color scheme is black and white with metallic. Why?
It incorporates well with a lot of modern color schemes, many of the pieces can be reused throughout the year (saving money!) and it doesn’t look like you bought your Halloween décor at a cheap pop-up costume shop (you know the ones!)
A little bit of creepy goes a long way: a skull here, a crow there.
But don’t forget about some accents that don’t give everyone the creeps but have a vintage, Victorian vibe, like an old-school phone, apothecary labels on bottles, or candles.
Go vintage Victorian, go subtle on the spooky, and keep it neutral.
Halloween Décor Ideas 2017: Create a Spooky Table
I personally do not like to spend a lot of money on Halloween décor that’s only going to be out for a few weeks.
But one area that I think is worth a bit of splurging is your table, where you’ll be entertaining your guests through the Halloween season.
Get some dessert or appetizer plates that keep in theme with the dark Victorian vibe, add some skull place holders, a vintage-style drink dispenser, and a skeleton hand serving set.
Halloween Décor Ideas 2017: Add a Cozy Seating Area
When people aren’t eating dinner, you’ll probably want to play a game or watch some scary monster flicks.
Create a cozy Halloween-themed seating area. Add a black and white striped throw (this can totally be reused throughout the year) and a couple of fun pillows with beautiful details like embroidery and sequins.
Halloween Décor Ideas 2017: Hang a Monsterous Gallery Wall
If you really want your Halloween décor to impress, switch up one of your walls with a seasonal gallery wall.
Add interest buy hanging prints, plaques, and dimensional pieces.
Since this is temporary (unless Halloween is totally your jam year-round) use Command strips to minimize wall damage.
Halloween Décor Ideas 2017: Go Nontraditional with the Pumpkins
Remember how I said ditch the orange and green? This goes for your pumpkins as well.
There are SO MANY options out there, so go for something that matches your overall vibe, maybe something with spikes, or flowers, or polkadots. I personally think I might order the floral pumpkin!
So let’s recap:
Ditch the traditional Halloween colors and motifs
- Add in hints of ghoulishness incorporate not-so-Halloweenish décor
- Spend most of your efforts on setting a boo-tiful table (I had to!)
- Cozy up with some throw pillows, blankets, and a movie or two.
- Nix the traditional pumpkins and get something that adds to your décor’s vibe
