Does your home have a bad case of the flats? Flat sofa, flat tables, flat art, flat floor. I’m beginning to fall asleep just thinking about it. This weekend I did something that I put off for a long time- I threw away all of my design school materials. They were taking up space and I didn’t need them anymore. And while I thought it would be hard getting rid of hours of work and thousands of dollars of supplies, I realized that the six year journey I took to heal from my mother’s death wasn’t about the materials I had left, or the pretty presentation boards in my office taking up way too much room. It was about what I learned along the way, and now I’m sharing it with you. So here are my lessons from interior design school.
I've got gadgets and gizmos aplenty. I've got whooz-its and whatz-its galore. You want thingamabobs? I got twenty. But who cares? No big deal. I want mooooore. Oh! Pardon me. I was just fantasizing about being a mermaid again. But while I'm on the subject of whooz-its and whatz-its galore, Ariel needed some home storage solutions, 'cause it was getting pretty cluttered in her mermaid pad. And while I'm not big on having home storage gadgets and gizmos aplenty, I do love these five items, especially if you're short on space for your thingamabobs. Read on, Mermaids!

Clutter. It’s gotta go! No matter how you hide it, cover it up, or pretend it isn’t there, it’s dragging you down. And if you truly want the stress-free, functional home that is the envy of all your friends, all of those cabinets, drawers, boxes upon boxes have to be not only organized, they need to be purged! Instead of being afraid to open your closet for fear that Lord only knows what will pop out and attack you, you need to declutter your home, like now! Still not convinced? Read on, Revolutionary!
I waited. I knew it was coming. I was nervous. I mean, nothing could outdo last year. Rose Quartz was my everything. Have you seen how much I love pink? And last week it was announced. Greenery. Greenery? Geez, it's awfully bright! Wow, now that I think about it, my clients never ask for green. Chartreuse, yes, and maybe a deep hunter, but Greenery? I took to my Instagram party. The reviews were mixed. Some loved green, just not that green. Others were excited for the bright possibilities. A fashion consultant buddy of mine said she was excited for her springs, but her summers weren't going to be happy. Maybe that was it? I am a summer, after all. Will this color be a huge hit? Or will it flop bigger than Marsala ('cause who remembers Marsala? Amirite?) And while I'm still on the fence on whether Greenery, the Pantone Color of the Year for 2017, will be a thing in the home decor world, I did come up with three beautiful options for bringing this bright hue into your home, no matter what your style!
