Oh yes! The Last Jedi dropped this weekend (I may have seen it twice)! Not that I’ve been counting down the days since Rogue One hit theaters last year or anything! But seriously, I love all things from a long time ago in a galaxy far far away, and thought it would be fun to show how to decorate a Star Wars inspired home without looking like a teenager. Let's have some fun and get the Force running through your space!
Star Wars Inspired Home Décor Step 1: Start With a Masculine, Vintage Base
This is the key to making your Star Wars living room or bedroom look like it belongs in the land of adulting.
Worn leather, plaids, antiqued rugs and deep hues of charcoal, emerald, oxblood, and cognac create a sophisticated base that can afford the bit of scifi greatness that you’re going to add into the rest of the room.
Pro Tip: The key, as always, is to mix-up your materials. Metals, woods, a variety of textiles, and you’re on your way!
Star Wars Inspired Home Décor Step 2: Hang Tribute Art
No Star Wars home is complete without a stylish gallery of your favorite film or character.
Go for something unexpected, and don’t just hang the same old traditional movie posters that you can find in Wal-Mart.
There are a variety of alt-movie poster artists out there, so check out my recommendations, see what you like best, and plan out a fun gallery.
Pro Tip: Don’t skimp on cheap frames. That is what will keep your space in the teen zone. I love Framebridge for custom framing, but you can also check out frames on Etsy, Amazon, and Target. Just make sure there’s glass and not plastic.
Star Wars Inspired Home Décor Step 3: Add Fun Lightin
There are some pretty fricking amazing Star Wars light fixtures out there! Or you can get something a bit space-inspired and starburst shaped.
To keep things classy, go whimsical with your lights, but traditional in your styling by adding two symmetrical pendants on either side of your sofa or bed. Super dramatic!
Pro Tip: If you don’t already have the junction boxes for lights in your ceiling, hire an electrician to put them in for you and include a dimmer switch so you can control the lighting.
Star Wars Inspired Home Décor Step 4: Layer in an Accessory or Two
Now don’t go crazy!
A Funko Pop Head situation on a shelf here, a throw pillow there. Maybe a mug to bring out for some coffee.
The goal is not for your space to look like a museum of all things Jedi Master and Sith Lord.
A little goes a long way!
And don’t hesitate to use these tips in your kid and teenager spaces as well!
The foundation of classic furniture will last for years, and they can easily switch out the theme of the space as they get older.
And if they want to keep it Star Wars for the long haul, I am totally on their side!
